Game industry veterans Brian Reynolds and Tim Train have rechristened their new studio Big Huge Games and confirmed that the mobile free-to-play game they’ve been working on since last year is a Clash of Clans competitor called DomiNations. This is a remarkable return to form for both developers, who cofounded the original Big Huge Games in 2000 as part of a coterie of ex-Firaxis developers. They went on to launch the acclaimed real-time strategy game Rise of Nations and begin development on what would become Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, though Big Huge was later acquired by THQ in 2008 and subsequently by 38 Studios in 2009. The game was eventually released under the 38 Studios label in 2012. Reynolds left Big Huge in 2009 to join Zynga. After 38 Studios collapsed in 2012 its assets were sold at auction and Reynolds acquired the rights to the Big Huge Games name, according to a GamesBeat report. Reynolds and Train founded their new studio last March as SecretNewCo, and later announced that they were working on a project known as SecretNewGame in partnership with free-to-play game company Nexon. The game has now been renamed DomiNations, and is expected to launch early next year on iOS and Android devices as a free-to-play multiplayer strategy game that will see players building empires that traverse the technological span of human history.
